1-Aug-2006:  CapeAbility Catch Can information updated

Catch Can with stand

There are two key questions that every irrigation manager wants to know the answer to; how much water should I apply and how often should I apply it? In other words how much and when?

To answer these questions the irrigator needs to know how fast the irrigation system applies water and how big is the soil reservoir to hold water for the plants. Of course it is vital to know how quickly the plant is using water as well.

The CapeAbility catch can is an Australian designed and manufactured can designed to give every irrigator an accurate measure of how fast water is applied through their irrigation system. It can be used to measure the application rate of practically any pressurised irrigation system from a drip or micro spray system to a centre pivot or lateral move.

Usage

An array of cans is placed in the area being irrigated, the system is turned on and the application from the system is caught in the cans. At the end of a fixed period of time the amount of water in the can is recorded and the application rate in mm per hour can be calculated.

For instructions on the use of the Catch Can see here. For information on using the Catch Can for your home garden see here.
